Arrested for homosexual behavior: Rustin Bayard
Rustin Bayard was a gay man who had been arrested for homosexual behavior early in his life. He was one of the first “Freedom Riders,” an advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King and A. Philip Randolph, and he was organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, intelligent, gregarious and charismatic, Rustin was denied his place in the limelight for one reason – he was gay.
